ABOUT CALDWELL ROBOTICS
We are Caldwell Robotics, a group of passionate students from Caldwell High School dedicated to designing, building, and programming robots for VEX competitions. Our team is a place where creativity meets technology, and where we learn the values of collaboration, perseverance, and strategic thinking.
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to foster a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) within our team and our community. We strive for excellence in every competition, but more importantly, we aim to build a strong foundation of skills like problem-solving, teamwork, and project management that will benefit us in our future careers and endeavors.
OUR HISTORY
Our journey in robotics began in 2012 with the VEX Robotics Competition game, 'Sack Attack.' Since then, our program has grown to become the most successful in Idaho. We have proudly qualified for the VEX Robotics World Championships six times in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2020 and 2025.
FAQ
What is the Vex Robotics Competition?
The Vex robotics competition is a robotics engineering challenge played on a 12-foot by 12-foot square field. Two alliances—one 'red' and one 'blue'—composed of two teams each, with one robot per team, compete in matches consisting of a fifteen-second autonomous period, followed by a one-minute and forty-five-second driver-controlled period. The object of the game is to attain a higher score than the opposing Alliance by scoring in various methods. Since a new game is released annually, the challenge is never the same; it could be stacking cubes, like in the 2019-2020 game "Tower Takeover", shooting discs like in the 2022-2023 game "Spin Up", or scoring blocks in goals, like the current game, "Push Back". The Alliance that scores more points in the Autonomous period is awarded with bonus points that are added at the beginning of the driver control period. However, head-to-head matches are only one part of the event. Teams also compete in the Robot Skills Challenge, where a single robot takes the field to maximize their score in one minute, testing both driver proficiency and programming consistency separately. Additionally, teams undergo a rigorous judging process off the field; they must submit an Engineering Notebook documenting their design journey and participate in technical interviews to contend for the highest honors, such as the Design and Excellence Awards.
